Spinozahuis

The modest seventeenth-century building at Paviljoensgracht seventy-two through seventy-four is known as the Domus Spinoza. It stands out in the neighborhood for its historical association with the philosopher Baruch de Spinoza, who moved here in sixteen seventy-one to live in a rented room on the first floor. He spent his final years in this house, earning a living by grinding lenses for optical instruments while completing his influential philosophical work, the Ethics.
