Plein 1813 is a large, circular square in The Hague dominated by the national Monument of Independence. The square takes its name from the year eighteen thirteen, when the Netherlands saw the end of French rule and the establishment of the Sovereign Principality of the United Netherlands, a precursor to the modern kingdom.
