Apteka pod Orłem

The Apteka pod Orłem, or Pharmacy Under the Eagle, occupies a corner building at number eighteen Ghetto Heroes Square. During the German occupation, this was the only pharmacy allowed to remain open within the walls of the Kraków Ghetto. Its owner, Tadeusz Pankiewicz, was an ethnic Pole who chose to stay in the ghetto after the area was sealed off in nineteen forty-one, becoming the only non-Jew permitted to live and work there throughout its existence.
