Old Synagogue

The Old Synagogue on Szeroka Street is defined by its heavy, fortress-like exterior, featuring thick masonry walls, exterior buttressing, and high windows designed to withstand siege. As the oldest synagogue still standing in Poland, it served for centuries as the central religious and administrative hub for the Jewish community of Kraków after they were relocated to the Kazimierz district in the late fifteenth century.
