Remah Cemetery

The Remah Cemetery in the Kazimierz district of Kraków is one of the oldest existing Jewish cemeteries in Poland, established between fifteen thirty-five and fifteen fifty-one. You can identify the site by the wall of salvaged, broken gravestones that borders the grounds, often referred to as the Wailing Wall. The cemetery is named for Rabbi Moses Isserles, a sixteenth-century scholar whose tombstone is among the very few that survived the destruction brought by the German occupation during World War Two.
