Isaac Jakubowicz Synagogue

The Isaac Jakubowicz Synagogue features a high, stone-walled exterior distinguished by a monumental Baroque portal on Kupa Street. Completed in sixteen forty-four, this building was commissioned by Izaak Jakubowicz, a financier to King Władysław the Fourth Vasa. Local residents and church officials initially opposed the project, arguing that the synagogue’s grand scale and prominent location in a district with Christian inhabitants posed a risk for potential conflict during religious processions.
