Szeroka

Szeroka Street is actually an elongated rectangular square, broad enough to earn its name, which translates simply to wide. It functioned for centuries as the commercial and spiritual center of the Jewish community in the district of Kazimierz. When King John Albert issued a decree in fourteen ninety-five requiring Jewish residents to leave Kraków, they resettled here in what became known as the Jewish City. At its peak, this single street contained four separate synagogues, a concentration of religious life that was uncommon across Europe.
