Kupa Synagogue

religious

The Kupa Synagogue stands as a low, rectangular structure built right against a fragment of the old medieval city wall of Kazimierz. Completed in sixteen forty-three, it was the final synagogue constructed while Kazimierz remained an independent city. Its name refers to the Hebrew word for a communal treasury, reflecting its origin as a project funded by the local Jewish council, or kehillah, with significant support from the city's goldsmiths' guild.
