Kraków Barbican

The Kraków Barbican is a circular brick fortress featuring seven watchtowers and three-meter-thick walls. Built at the end of the fifteenth century by order of King Jan Olbracht, this structure served as a critical northern checkpoint for the city, guarding the entrance to the Royal Route. It was connected to the Florian Gate by a long, covered passage known as the neck, which allowed soldiers to reinforce the city's defenses while remaining shielded from enemy fire.
