High Synagogue

The High Synagogue on Józefa Street in Kraków is identifiable by the three tall, semicircular windows on its upper level, which look out over the street from the building's facade. Completed in fifteen sixty-three in the late Renaissance style, the structure was the third synagogue built in the Kazimierz district. Its name comes from a singular architectural choice: the main prayer hall was placed on the first floor, situated above commercial shops on the ground level.
