The Stellenbosch NG Moederkerk is a prominent white building in the town center, distinguished by its high Neo-Gothic tower and buttressed walls. As the second oldest Dutch Reformed congregation in South Africa, its history began in sixteen eighty-six when Reverend Johannes Overney held the first service in a local house. The current structure, located on Drostdy Street, reached its present Gothic Revival form in eighteen sixty-three under the direction of the German architect Carl Otto Hager.
