Drostdy Road

Drostdy Road traces the early history of Stellenbosch, marking a site fundamental to the town’s eighteenth-century formation. In sixteen eighty-five, officials designated this area as the seat of justice, where the local magistrate, or landdrost, resided and held court. The original Drostdy building stood on a small island in the Eerste River, near the current location of the university’s theological faculty, functioning as the center of local authority.
