Dutch Reformed

The Dutch Reformed Moederkerk, or Mother Church, is recognizable by its Neo-Gothic tower and the pristine white walls that define its profile in the upper end of Stellenbosch. This building serves as the home to the second oldest congregation of the Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa, established in sixteen eighty-six by Reverend Johannes Overney. The current structure, completed in eighteen sixty-three, was designed by German architect Carl Otto Hager, who gave the church its characteristic pointed-arch windows, buttresses, and pinnacles.
