De Akker

De Akker, located at ninety Dorp Street, is widely recognized as the oldest pub in Stellenbosch. While the exact date of the building’s construction is unknown because original records were lost during a fire and a slave revolt in the early nineteenth century, the establishment is said to have received its first liquor license around eighteen seventy-two. Its name, which means acorn in Afrikaans, reflects the oak-lined streets that define much of the town’s character.
