Afloat

Afloat is a bronze sculpture, shaped like a giant donut, standing at the seaward end of a groyne near the Brighton Palace Pier. Created by artist Hamish Black in nineteen ninety-eight, the piece consists of a world globe that has been mathematically transformed by pressing its north and south poles together. This torus shape is significant because scientists have proposed it as a potential model for the structure of the universe.
