Old Police Cells Museum

Beneath the neoclassical columns of Brighton Town Hall, a narrow staircase leads away from the sunlight and into a series of cramped, atmospheric Victorian-era cells. This basement space functioned as the Brighton Borough Police headquarters and holding facility from eighteen thirty until nineteen sixty-seven. The brickwork and iron doors remain largely as they were during those years, providing a direct view into the stark conditions of a nineteenth-century custody suite.
