Brighton Palace Pier

Brighton Palace Pier stretches one thousand seven hundred twenty-two feet into the English Channel, distinguished at night by sixty-seven thousand light bulbs that trace its silhouette against the sea. Opened on May twentieth, eighteen ninety-nine, this Grade II* listed structure replaced the older Chain Pier, which had collapsed three years earlier during a massive storm. Designed by R. Saint George Moore, the pier was originally envisioned as a marine palace and featured elegant reading and dining rooms.
