The Lanes are a tight, labyrinthine network of narrow, cobblestone alleyways that twist through the historic heart of Brighton. These passages, often called twittens, trace the original layout of the sixteenth-century fishing village of Brighthelmstone. The area is a dense quarter defined by closely packed, multi-story buildings that create a maze of shadowed streets, separated from the open, expansive seafront by a single block.
