Brighton Beach Bandstand

The Brighton Bandstand is a striking, octagonal structure of ornate cast iron, easily identified by its intricate, lacy columns and glass roof rising above the seafront promenade. Designed by borough surveyor Phillip Lockwood and completed in eighteen eighty-four, the structure was manufactured at the Saracen Foundry in Glasgow. It was built during a period when Brighton held eight such venues, intended to host military bands and social gatherings for the city's many visitors.
