SEA LIFE Brighton

SEA LIFE Brighton is the world's oldest operating aquarium, distinguished by the original vaulted ceilings and Gothic-style stonework designed by architect Eugenius Birch. Construction of the building began in eighteen sixty-nine, and it officially opened to the public on August tenth, eighteen seventy-two. Birch, who also engineered the city's West Pier, utilized Bath stone and red Edinburgh granite to create an interior that originally housed a music conservatory and a roof terrace for roller-skating.
