The Cricketers

The Cricketers, located on Black Lion Street in Brighton’s historic Lanes, is a three-storey building defined by its double bow-fronted Georgian architecture. Records indicate a public house has occupied this site since fifteen forty-seven, making it the oldest pub in Brighton. Its earliest landlord, Derrick Carver, met a violent end when he was burned as a heretic for his religious beliefs during the sixteenth century.
