The Cambridge Arts Theatre on Peas Hill is identifiable by its setting in the old city center, tucked near St Edward's Passage where a historic water pump from the site's days as a fish market still stands. Founded in nineteen thirty-six, the venue was the brainchild of the economist John Maynard Keynes, who sought to provide a modern, central stage for the city's residents and university members alike. When public fundraising efforts struggled, Keynes personally underwrote the remaining costs to ensure the project’s completion.
