Eleanor Rigby Statue

A bronze figure sits alone on a stone bench on Stanley Street, hunched forward with a handbag resting on her lap and a shopping bag with a milk bottle at her side. She is an interpretation of the character from the nineteen sixty-six Beatles song, and she gazes down at a small sparrow perched on a copy of the Liverpool Echo newspaper. The sculpture was designed by the entertainer Tommy Steele, who donated his labor to the city as a tribute to the band.
