The Pump House is defined by a tall, ornate brick chimney that rises above the Royal Albert Dock. Built in the eighteen seventies, the structure originally functioned as a hydraulic pumping station, sending pressurized water through underground pipes to operate the cranes, hoists, and lifts that once moved heavy cargo across the docks.
