The Dispensary

The Dispensary occupies the corner of Renshaw Street and Oldham Street, identifiable by its traditional exterior and history as one of the city's oldest pub sites. While it has operated under its current name for roughly two decades, the building has served as a public house since eighteen fifty-seven. Originally known as The Grapes and once part of the Tetley and Cains brewery chains, the pub underwent a transformation during the late twentieth century. Owners at the time incorporated fixtures from old chemist shops and pharmaceutical items into the interior to evoke the atmosphere of a Victorian dispensary.
