The Jacaranda

The Jacaranda occupies a former watch-repair shop on Slater Street, distinguished by the murals still lining its basement walls. Allan Williams, who later became the first manager of The Beatles, opened the venue in September nineteen fifty-eight. He created a space featuring one of the city's first espresso machines and an American-style jukebox, drawing in art students and local musicians who sought a place to socialize and hear music outside of school or home.
