Jericho Wharf Trust

The Castlemill Boatyard at Jericho Wharf is marked by its position directly beside the Oxford Canal, sitting immediately adjacent to the ornate, nineteenth-century tower of Saint Barnabas Church. This site, which dates back to the early eighteenth century, began as a coal wharf established by Henry Ward, a prominent local merchant who helped shape the early layout of Jericho. For over a century and a half, the yard provided a vital industrial base for the suburb, transitioning through its roles as a coal depot, a hub for canal-based trade, and eventually a repair yard for the canal’s leisure and residential boaters.
