Rewley Road Swing Bridge

The Rewley Road Swing Bridge spans the Sheepwash Channel and is identifiable by its steel lattice girders and the central pivot mechanism that allowed it to rotate ninety degrees. Built between eighteen fifty and eighteen fifty-one to designs by Robert Stephenson, the son of the famous railway engineer George Stephenson, it served the Buckinghamshire Railway line. It was constructed to transport trains into the Rewley Road station, which was established after the Great Western Railway refused to share its own local infrastructure.
