Mission High School is defined by a one hundred twenty-seven-foot baroque dome and a red-tile roof that dominates the corner of Eighteenth Street. Founded in eighteen ninety, the school is the oldest in San Francisco to remain on its original site between Dolores and Church streets. Its present building, completed in nineteen twenty-seven, reflects the city's golden age of school construction and serves as a visual neighbor to the Mission Dolores Basilica, which shares a similar California Churrigueresque style.
