The Lyon Street Steps are a series of public staircases that bridge the steep grade between Broadway and Green Street. Built in nineteen sixteen by architect Louis M. Upton, these stairs were constructed to provide a practical pedestrian route through the hillside of the Pacific Heights neighborhood. The descent is framed by symmetrically landscaped garden terraces and offers wide views of the Palace of Fine Arts and the San Francisco Bay.
