The three-story Victorian at twenty-six forty Steiner Street is distinguished by its turreted corner and its position overlooking the slope of the street toward the San Francisco Bay. Built in eighteen ninety-three by architect Joachim B. Mathison, the residence gained international recognition as the Hillard family home in the nineteen ninety-three film Mrs. Doubtfire. While the production team filmed most interior scenes on a separate soundstage, this house served as the primary exterior location for the comedy.
