The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory is recognizable by the traditional Key West structure of clapboard, dormers, and gingerbread detailing at its entrance on Duval Street, which conceals a massive, glass-enclosed tropical habitat to the rear. Opened in two thousand three by founders Sam Trophia and George Fernandez, the facility houses hundreds of free-flying butterflies representing over fifty species from around the world.
