Peavey Plaza is a sunken urban space that sits ten feet below street level, defined by its rectilinear concrete terraces and a signature cascading fountain. Designed by landscape architect M. Paul Friedberg and completed in nineteen seventy-five, the site was envisioned as the living room of downtown Minneapolis. It was built alongside Orchestra Hall as a modern counterpart to the pedestrian environment of the nearby Nicollet Mall.
