The Dayton’s Project occupies a twelve-story structure spanning an entire city block, identifiable by its massive footprint and the custom brass letter D inlaid at its entrances. This building served as the flagship department store for the Dayton Company for over one hundred years. It began in nineteen oh two as a six-story brick and terra cotta structure at the corner of Seventh Street and Nicollet Avenue. Through sixteen separate additions, the store grew to cover three-quarters of the block, eventually housing famous spaces like the Oak Grill and the Sky Room.
