Fifty-six Crosby Street is a nineteenth-century brick commercial building defined by its tall windows, curved iron fire escapes, and a bracketed cornice. Designed by the architectural firm Lamb and Wheeler, the structure was completed in eighteen eighty-two. While its Broadway frontage originally served as a department store, the residential entrance is located here on Crosby Street.
