Pier Twenty-Six is a two-and-a-half-acre stretch of public parkland that extends into the Hudson River, distinguished by a cultivated rocky salt marsh at its western edge known as the Tide Deck. Opened in September twenty-twenty, the pier was designed to recreate the varied ecological zones that once existed along the Manhattan shoreline before centuries of industrial development. Visitors walk a path that transitions from a woodland forest and coastal grasslands through maritime scrub, ending at the water where the tide rises and falls against an engineered, rocky intertidal habitat.
