Vera Katz Statue

This bronze sculpture depicts Vera Katz, the former mayor of Portland, sitting on an orange triangular base with her legs crossed and hands held together in her lap. Created by artist Bill Bane, the work was unveiled on June second, two thousand six, at the south end of the Eastbank Esplanade near the Hawthorne Bridge. Katz herself attended the surprise unveiling, where she famously remarked that the statue looked far more beautiful than she did.
