Morrison Bridge

The Morrison Bridge spans the Willamette River as a six-lane, double-leaf bascule bridge, identified by the heavy steel trusses that frame its movable center section. Completed in nineteen fifty-eight, it is the third bridge to stand at this crossing, replacing a wooden swing-span bridge that opened in eighteen eighty-seven as the first span to connect Portland’s east and west banks. At its debut, that original wooden bridge was the longest of its kind west of the Mississippi River.
