Theatre of The Living Arts

The Theatre of the Living Arts, known to locals as the TLA, is recognizable by the traditional marquee stretching over the sidewalk on South Street. Since opening in nineteen oh eight, the building has cycled through many identities, beginning as a nickelodeon called the Crystal Palace. It later operated as a concert hall, a movie theater, and a repertory stage, helping to re-establish the surrounding neighborhood as a center for bohemian counterculture in the nineteen sixties.
