The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is recognizable by its five gleaming, gold-coated domes and distinctive green-tiled roof. Built between nineteen oh seven and nineteen fourteen on a plot belonging to the Russian Embassy, the structure follows the Russian Revival style inspired by seventeenth-century Moscow architecture. It was designed by the architect Mikhail Preobrazhensky and stands on the former site of the Saray Mosque, which had been destroyed in eighteen eighty-two following the liberation of Bulgaria.
