Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum occupies the upper two floors of Saint John Fortress, a massive stone structure that anchors the southeastern corner of the Old Town. This fortress once protected the entrance to the city’s harbor, and its thick walls and rounded sea-facing design remain a testament to the defense systems of the Republic of Ragusa. Construction began in thirteen forty-six, with the fortress reaching its final form by the late sixteenth century.
