Bajamontuša

The Bajamontuša was a monumental fountain that once stood on the waterfront, directly at the foot of the steps leading down from the Prokurative square. Designed by the Paduan sculptor Luigi Ceccona and commissioned by Split mayor Antonio Bajamonti, the structure celebrated the arrival of running water to the city in eighteen eighty-eight. It featured elaborate stone carvings, including figures representing the sea and the river Jadro, and served as a prominent landmark for decades.
