Kunsthal Charlottenborg is identifiable by its Dutch Baroque palace exterior, which contrasts with the contemporary art hosted within its walls. Situated between Kongens Nytorv and the Nyhavn canal, this building originated in sixteen sixty-nine as a mansion for Ulrik Frederik Gyldenløve, the half-brother of King Christian the Fifth. The King intended for the mansion to anchor a new, grand city center, dubbing the nearby square Kongens Nytorv.
