The Astronomical Observatory of Quito is a butter-yellow Victorian building that stands out in the center of La Alameda Park. Constructed in the shape of a Greek cross, it features five turreted towers and a large central dome that houses the observatory's most notable instrument. This building has served as a center for scientific research since eighteen seventy-three, when it was founded by President Gabriel García Moreno.
