Church of the Society of Jesus

The Church of the Society of Jesus, or La Compañía, is immediately recognizable by its dark, intricate façade carved entirely from volcanic andesite stone. This exterior stands in sharp contrast to the interior, which is famous for being covered almost entirely in gold leaf. Construction of the building began in sixteen oh five and lasted one hundred and sixty years, finally concluding in seventeen sixty-five.
