Plaza de Santo Domingo

The Plaza de Santo Domingo is defined by the stone-paved square and the monumental bronze statue of Marshal Antonio José de Sucre at its center, with his hand raised to point toward the Pichincha volcano. The plaza takes its name from the adjacent Church and Convent of Santo Domingo, a seventeenth-century complex marked by a tall bell tower and the Arch of Santo Domingo, which features two small domes covered in green tiles.
