San Agustin

The Church of San Agustín is defined by its facade of dark volcanic stone, punctuated by crisp, white-framed doorways. This seventeenth-century complex, run by the Augustinian order, sits in the historic center of Quito. Its construction began in sixteen oh six and reached completion by sixteen fifty, utilizing stone quarried from the Pichincha volcano. The church serves as a center for religious life and houses extensive works by the renowned painter Miguel de Santiago, whose canvases depict the life of Saint Augustine throughout the interior.
