The Basílica del Voto Nacional dominates the Quito skyline with its twin gothic spires, which reach one hundred and fifteen meters into the air. This massive structure was initiated in eighteen ninety-two following a pledge by President Gabriel García Moreno to dedicate the nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is the largest neo-Gothic church in the Americas and is constructed primarily from gray volcanic stone.
