Teatro Sucre

cultural

The Teatro Nacional Sucre stands out for its neoclassical façade featuring a pediment adorned with a relief of Orpheus and the nine muses. Located in the historic center of Quito, this venue was built between eighteen seventy-nine and eighteen eighty-six by order of President Ignacio de Veintemilla. It was designed by the German architect Francisco Schmidt, who aimed to create an opera house in the Italian style that would rival those in major world capitals.
