La Petite Ceinture, or the Little Belt, is a circular railway line that once defined the edges of Paris. Built in segments between eighteen fifty-two and eighteen sixty-nine, the tracks formed a full loop inside the city's old fortification walls. You can identify the line today by the remaining rusted steel rails that run through trenches and tunnels, often reclaimed by thick, spontaneous vegetation and rugged stone retaining walls.
